We at Rural E literacy Foundation (REF) intend to provide an opportunity to people in rural areas to access and familiarize the digital world which is now fast evolving.

Equality and equal opportunity is the corner stone of development. With the advent of globalization and technology there was a serious gap in access to technology for those living in rural and urban area. This gap- which popularly known as digital divide have created havoc in the lives of the people living in rural areas as they are having nil/limited access to technology. India the second populated country in the world aggressively pursued the path of globalization since 2000 and remarkably achieved the status of technological giant mainly in the field of Information Technology. Needless to say Information Technology has increased the quality of living for those who are in the said field and for those associated with them.

However this technological advancement has serious effect on rural areas due to lack of access to technology. People living in rural areas are unable to compete with those in the urban areas. As a result large scale migration happens from rural to urban resulting in increase in environmental pollution, city bursts which have ill effects on the entire human eco system. We like minded people who work in the technology side often felt that the instruments of technology are often underutilized. When a computer has a shell life of 5 years, it is used only for 1-2 years by any IT company and later disbanded. This not only leaves the instrument underutilized but also threatens the human existence in the form of electronic waste (e-waste).

Hence to make optimize the usage of these technological instruments, we propose to procure these instruments like that of computers, laptops and other equipments from those companies who dismantle them within a short span of time to meet its customer requirements and then distribute them to those living in the rural areas so that those living in the rural areas could be equipped with technology and also could prevent e-waste by optimum usage.Further by conducting constant workshop, training sessions- those living in rural areas could be trained in technology there ensuring real equality and equal opportunity in the technological world.
